Abuse Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-15

We take reports of abuse seriously. This page describes what counts as abuse, how to report it, and what we'll do.

What Counts as Abuse

We consider the following abusive use of the uptimepage service:

  • Unauthorised monitoring: Configuring targets pointing at systems the operator does not own or have permission to monitor
  • DDoS amplification: Configuring high-frequency checks against a victim's infrastructure
  • Illegal content: Hosting illegal content on a public status page (e.g., copyright violations, defamation, illegal-in-jurisdiction speech)
  • Trademark infringement: Squatting on an organisation slug or public name that infringes a registered trademark
  • Malware or phishing: Using public status pages to distribute malware or facilitate phishing
  • Harassment: Targeting individuals through targeted misinformation on a public page
  • Resource abuse: Repeatedly bypassing quota mechanisms; creating multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limits

How to Report

Email slima4.u8@gmail.com with subject line [ABUSE] and include:

  1. The URL of the offending content or organisation slug
  2. The nature of the abuse (categories above)
  3. Evidence (screenshots, logs, links)
  4. Your contact information (we may need to follow up)
  5. If reporting a trademark issue, proof of ownership

We do not require you to identify yourself unless your report involves a legal claim that requires verification (e.g., trademark infringement).

What Happens After You Report

We aim to:

  • Acknowledge your report within 48 hours
  • Complete initial investigation within 7 days
  • Take action and notify you within 14 days

For severe cases (active malware distribution, ongoing DDoS), we act within hours.

Actions We May Take

Depending on severity and evidence:

  • Warning: Email to the account owner asking them to remedy
  • Temporary suspension: Account is suspended pending response
  • Permanent removal: Account is terminated; data is deleted
  • Slug forfeiture: A squatted slug is returned to the rightful holder
  • Law enforcement referral: For criminal activity, we cooperate with competent authorities

Appeals

If your account is suspended or terminated, you can appeal by replying to the notification email. Appeals are reviewed within 14 days.

Trademark Disputes

If you believe an organisation slug or public name infringes your trademark:

  1. Email slima4.u8@gmail.com with subject [TRADEMARK]
  2. Include proof of trademark registration (registration number, country)
  3. Identify the offending slug or organisation
  4. State your relationship to the trademark holder

We will notify the current holder of the dispute. If they don't respond within 14 days, or if the evidence is clear, we transfer the slug.

We do not mediate disputes where both parties have legitimate claims; those need to be settled outside our process.

Privacy

We treat abuse reports as confidential. We do not reveal the identity of the reporter to the reported account holder unless legally required.
